LWC Boss Reaffirms Commitment to Improved Water Supply at Global Water Summit 2025
The Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, has reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to enhancing water supply and infrastructure across Lagos State in line with global standards.
Engr. Tijani made this declaration while participating in the Global Water Summit (GWS) 2025, a prestigious annual gathering of the world’s foremost water leaders and stakeholders, held at the Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel in France.
This year’s summit brought together 300 global water leaders, experts, investors, and policymakers to deliberate on the pressing challenges confronting the global water sector — particularly in the face of escalating climate change and resource scarcity. The summit focused on fostering partnerships and financial commitments needed to strengthen water security worldwide.
“In a world that has crossed the critical 1.5°C global warming threshold, water security is under unprecedented pressure,” Engr. Tijani stated during his remarks. “The Global Water Summit is where money meets water – a platform that connects leaders and investors committed to driving long-term, sustainable solutions to one of humanity’s most urgent needs.”
He further expressed pride in being part of the elite network of “300 Water Leaders,” a global initiative of experts and advocates working in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which emphasizes the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030.
Engr. Tijani noted that the Lagos Water Corporation is actively implementing reforms to align with international best practices, strengthen institutional capacity, and foster innovation in the delivery of potable water to millions of Lagos residents.
“The opportunity to engage with leading global minds and stakeholders at the summit has further reinforced our resolve at LWC to adopt scalable solutions, leverage global financing mechanisms, and ensure equitable access to clean, safe, and affordable water across Lagos State,” he added.
He concluded by stating that Lagos is poised to become a model city for urban water management in Africa, through collaborative efforts, investment in infrastructure, and sound policy frameworks that place the welfare of residents at the core of development strategies.
