Former Osun State Education Adviser and APC Leader Sue Adeleke’s Aide, IGP Over Alleged Threat to Life

Jamiu Olawumi, a former Special Adviser on Education under the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, and Adebayo Adedeji, a prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have filed a lawsuit against Dr. Wale Bolorunduro—an aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke—as well as the Inspector General of Police, at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State. The suit stems from alleged threats to their lives and persistent police harassment.

The legal action, filed on May 22, 2025, and registered as suit number FHC/OS/CS/106/2025, also names one Inspector Nancy as a co-defendant. Bolorunduro, who previously served as the Commissioner for Finance under the Rauf Aregbesola administration, currently holds the position of Chairman of Living Trust Mortgage Bank following his appointment by Governor Adeleke.

In the suit, Olawumi and Adedeji contend that their fundamental rights were repeatedly violated through a series of police invitations issued between May 12 and May 15, 2025, over unsubstantiated allegations of cyberstalking. They assert that these actions—devoid of credible evidence—constitute harassment, intimidation, and threats to their lives.

The plaintiffs argue that the respondents’ conduct contravenes multiple provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), specifically Sections 33 (right to life), 34 (right to dignity), 35 (right to personal liberty), 37 (right to private and family life), 41 (freedom of movement), and 46 (right to seek redress for rights violations).

They are seeking four major reliefs from the court. Among these is a declaration that the actions of the respondents were illegal, unconstitutional, null, and void. Additionally, they are demanding:

The sum of N5 million as damages for the false allegations, which they claim were made with the intent to defame and traumatize them;

An additional N6 million in compensation, alongside a public apology, for the psychological, emotional, and mental distress inflicted upon them and their families due to the continued harassment and violation of their rights;

An order restraining further intimidation and unlawful summons by the police.

The plaintiffs maintain that the conduct of the defendants has not only infringed on their fundamental human rights but has also caused irreparable harm to their personal and public reputations.
