A high-profile coalition meeting at the Abuja Continental Hotel descended into chaos as delegates from Jigawa State protested representation issues. The gathering, which included prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, was organized by the National Political Consultative Group (North).

The disruption intensified when Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced a delegate to represent Jigawa State. This announcement sparked outrage among the state’s representatives, leading to a storming of the venue by the protesting delegates.

The incident highlighted underlying tensions within the coalition and raised questions about the inclusivity and fairness of representation among the various states involved.

Coalition Driven by Old Grudges, Not Vision — Senator Husain

Meanwhile, Senator Mudasiru Husain has criticized the coalition meeting led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi, asserting that no alliance of discontent can displace President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office. Husain, who previously represented the Osun West Senatorial District, emphasized that the coalition’s motivations stem from personal vendettas rather than a genuine commitment to national unity or vision.

In a statement, the senator, who is a prominent aspirant for the 2026 Osun State governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC), argued that the coalition’s primary goal is to undermine President Tinubu’s effective leadership, which has already begun to reshape Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.

He stated, “But let’s be honest. What binds these individuals? Not vision. Not unity. Not even shared principles. What they have in common is ambition, often personal, and in many cases, driven by old grudges. These are not the foundations of a credible alternative.”

Husain further asserted, “President Tinubu has far surpassed the influence of any force they can muster. His political instincts, strategic depth, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s future place him far ahead of any challenge this coalition might present.”

Reflecting on his own political journey, Husain remarked, “I know this not just as a politician, but as someone whose journey was shaped under the progressive banner that Tinubu has championed for decades. His mentorship, his selfless sacrifices, and his foresight laid the foundation for many of us who now have a voice in public service.”

He acknowledged the growing desperation within the opposition, pointing out that Peter Obi’s decision to run exclusively under the Labour Party indicates a lack of unity among them. Husain noted, “Meanwhile, defections continue from their camp into the APC, which speaks volumes about where true leadership lies.”

Highlighting President Tinubu’s accomplishments, he stated, “Let’s not forget President Tinubu’s achievements. In less than two years, he’s rebalanced Nigeria’s economic framework and is building bridges across ethnic and political divides. People are taking note; even those who once stood against him are beginning to realign, embracing a new era of progressive politics.”

Looking toward the future, Husain expressed confidence in Nigeria’s trajectory under Tinubu’s leadership, saying, “As I look ahead to 2027, I see a stronger, more unified Nigeria under President Tinubu’s leadership. The noise will rise, but it won’t shake the foundation we’ve built. Our focus remains steady, our values clear.”
