The Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA) has hailed the appointment of Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu as the new Director General of the National Institute of Sports (NIS), describing it as a pivotal moment for Nigerian sports development.

In a statement issued by NFCA President Isah Ladan Bosso, the association praised Shaibu’s extensive experience as a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, international footballer, and accomplished sports administrator. “This is not just a political appointment; it is a national assignment rooted in experience, vision, and legacy,” Bosso said, emphasizing Shaibu’s transformative contributions to sports, including the revival of Bendel Insurance and the modernization of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

The NFCA expressed optimism that Shaibu’s leadership will usher in a new era for the NIS, blending tradition with modern, technology-driven approaches to coach education. The association urged Shaibu to prioritize structured training, research-based education, and globally recognized multi-sport coaching certifications to elevate Nigeria’s sports ecosystem.

Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment, the NFCA pledged its full support to Shaibu’s administration, anticipating a collaborative effort to produce a new generation of elite sports professionals. “We look forward to a strengthened Nigerian coaching architecture under his leadership,” Bosso added.
