Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Warns Nigerians Against Scammers Over 753-Unit Housing Estate Linked to Former CBN Governor
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has issued a stern warning to Nigerians to be cautious of fraudsters exploiting the recent government takeover of a 753-unit housing estate associated with former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele.
In a press statement released on Saturday, titled “Confiscated 753-Unit Housing Estate Not on Sale Yet, Beware of Scammers,” and signed by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, the Ministry clarified that no sale process has begun for the estate.
The statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) reads: “The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development wishes to alert the general public that it has not yet commenced any process for the sale of the 753-unit housing estate linked to former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, which it recently took custody of from the EFCC.”
The Ministry expressed concern over reports that scammers are deceitfully demanding N500,000 from unsuspecting individuals in exchange for a fake expression of interest form. These fraudsters falsely claim to have the Ministry’s approval to sell the housing units.
The Ministry categorically dismissed such claims and urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious. “For avoidance of doubt, the Ministry has just taken over the estate from the EFCC as directed by Mr. President,” the statement emphasized.
Further, the Ministry explained that the government will complete the construction of the houses and provide all necessary infrastructure before officially offering the units for sale or allocating them for special government needs.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, also announced plans to establish a technical committee tasked with managing the next phases of the project.
According to the statement, “The Honorable Minister has directed the formation of a technical committee to conduct a comprehensive physical assessment of the estate, perform integrity tests on the buildings, identify infrastructural requirements to make the estate habitable, and develop a strategic plan for the estate’s eventual disposal.”
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency and advised the public to rely only on official announcements regarding the housing estate to avoid falling victim to scams.
