We supported Peter Obi in the last election, but today, given President Tinubu’s clear direction and proactive policies, we are throwing our weight behind him. He is, without doubt, the most capable and sellable candidate for Nigeria’s next phase of transformation – Enforcers of Good Governance

The Enforcers of Good Governance, a nationwide grassroots movement, has formally declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, citing his bold economic reforms, visionary leadership, and unwavering political will as key reasons behind the endorsement.

At a press conference held in Abuja on Saturday, the group—whose membership spans all 319 electoral wards in Rivers State—also announced the withdrawal of its support for the Labour Party and its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, whom it had previously backed.

Addressing journalists, the group’s Convener and National Leader, Dr. Kingsley Ogu, said President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated the resolve and capacity required to address Nigeria’s long-standing economic and developmental challenges. He emphasized that continued support for the President is essential to consolidate the progress already made.

“This is not merely a political endorsement—it is a call for continuity in leadership that has displayed uncommon courage, strategic vision, and the determination to take tough decisions for the greater good,” Dr. Ogu said. “We supported Peter Obi in the last election, but today, given President Tinubu’s clear direction and proactive policies, we are throwing our weight behind him. He is, without doubt, the most capable and sellable candidate for Nigeria’s next phase of transformation.”

Dr. Ogu pointed to key policy interventions and economic milestones of the Tinubu administration as evidence of positive momentum. These include the repayment of longstanding International Monetary Fund (IMF) loans, the ramp-up in crude oil production to over 1.4 million barrels per day, and renewed efforts to resolve the decades-old Ogoni oil dispute.

He also highlighted the commissioning of major energy infrastructure projects, such as the AHL and ANOH Gas Processing Plants and the 23.3km OB3 metering pipeline, under an Executive Order signed by the President. According to Ogu, these developments are helping to revitalize Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, which had suffered from underinvestment for over a decade.

“Since assuming office, President Tinubu has shown a deep understanding of the nation’s challenges and has taken meaningful steps to resolve them,” he stated. “From restoring drilling in Ogoni land to driving clean energy initiatives in the Niger Delta, his administration is setting the stage for sustainable growth.”

Acknowledging that some of the President’s policies have triggered short-term discomfort, Ogu said such reforms are essential for long-term economic stability.

“We know the pain is real, especially at the grassroots level. But as advocates of good governance, we also see the bigger picture. These reforms are laying a solid foundation for future prosperity,” he said.

On the political situation in Rivers State, Dr. Ogu welcomed the federal government’s declaration of a state of emergency, though he admitted it was a tough but necessary move. He expressed confidence in the President’s decision-making and urged political actors in the state to embrace dialogue and reconciliation.

He specifically commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for initiating peace efforts, including reaching out to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike. Dr. Ogu urged the governor to expand the reconciliation process to include the State House of Assembly and other critical stakeholders.

“The people of Rivers State want peace, not political unrest. The Governor’s recent overtures are a good start, but broader engagement is essential to de-escalate tensions and restore stability,” he added.

Reaffirming the group’s commitment to equitable representation, Ogu emphasized the importance of allowing the South to complete a full two-term presidency. He called on all stakeholders to rally behind President Tinubu to ensure the continuation of transformative leadership.

He concluded by announcing that the Enforcers of Good Governance will soon launch a state-wide sensitization campaign across Rivers State to mobilize grassroots support for President Tinubu’s re-election.
