Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has been named the Premier League Player of the Season, securing the prestigious award for the second time in his career. The 32-year-old Egyptian, who previously won in 2017-18, earned the honor through a combination of public votes and a panel of football experts.
Salah, instrumental in guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title this season, outshone strong competition from teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, as well as Arsenal’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Declan Rice, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood. This marks the first time since the 2018-19 season that a Manchester City player has not claimed the award.
Ahead of Liverpool’s final match against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Salah leads the league with 28 goals—five more than any other player—and 18 assists, just two shy of the record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. This season, he also surpassed Sergio Aguero to become the Premier League’s highest-scoring overseas player and signed a new two-year contract, committing to Anfield until 2027.
Earlier this month, Salah was named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year for the third time, commanding over 90% of the votes.
