President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Ayo Obe, a distinguished human rights lawyer and veteran pro-democracy advocate, on the occasion of her 70th birthday, celebrated on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Ms. Obe for her unwavering commitment to justice, human rights, and democratic values in Nigeria.
He highlighted her remarkable contributions as a former Chairperson of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), a leader of the Nigeria Transition Monitoring Group, and a former member of the Police Service Commission. From 2006 to 2009, Ms. Obe also led the Abuja Elections Programme of the Democratic Institute.
President Tinubu lauded her enduring patriotism and humanitarian values, which he described as the hallmarks of a life devoted to public service and advocacy for a just society.
“Your life of commitment, versatility, and diligence in service, particularly your tireless fight against injustice and human rights violations, remains an inspiration,” the President said. “You stood firm alongside other brave Nigerians to challenge military rule during the nation’s most challenging times, even at great personal risk.”
He further expressed pride in her role in the struggle for democratic governance in Nigeria, affirming his administration’s dedication to upholding and deepening those hard-won democratic principles.
President Tinubu concluded by praying for continued good health and strength for Ms. Obe, wishing her many more years of impactful service to the nation and humanity.
