The First Lady of Warri North Local Government Area in Delta State, Mrs. Omasan Ashima, on Wednesday, generously donated essential medical supplies, drugs, and other supportive items to individuals battling sickle cell anaemia. The donation took place at the General Hospital in Koko, the administrative headquarters of the council area.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Ashima emphasized that the initiative aims to promote equitable access to healthcare, particularly in underserved communities. She highlighted the importance of inclusive medical care in enhancing the quality of life for those affected by chronic illnesses such as sickle cell anaemia.
Encouraging the patients to remain hopeful and resilient, Mrs. Ashima urged them to manage their condition effectively in order to lead fulfilling, productive lives and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Delta State and Nigeria at large.
She described her visit as part of a sustained outreach program under her office, which aligns with the broader vision of the wife of the state governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, through her humanitarian initiative. The program also reflects the ongoing efforts of the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in supporting vulnerable groups across the country.
“We are here to stand in solidarity with patients living with sickle cell anaemia,” she said. “The administrations of Warri North, Delta State, and the Federal Government remain committed to enhancing healthcare access, alleviating suffering, and fostering social justice and equity.”
Mrs. Ashima added that the visit would help ease the financial burden of healthcare on the affected families and lift their spirits. She emphasized the role of her You Matter Charity Foundation, which is dedicated to ensuring that every individual feels valued and supported. “This visit is a testament to our belief that everyone is somebody. That’s why we came to offer emotional and medical support to these courageous young people,” she stated.
Receiving the First Lady at the hospital, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. M. Mukoro, expressed deep appreciation for her continuous humanitarian interventions. He praised her for her compassion and urged other well-meaning individuals and organizations to follow her example by supporting vulnerable members of society.
One of the beneficiaries, Miss Tolu, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the patients. She thanked Mrs. Ashima for her compassion and generosity, and prayed for continued blessings and greater opportunities for the chairperson and her husband to expand their charitable efforts.
