23-Year-Old Woman Arraigned in Kaduna for Allegedly Stabbing Boyfriend During Domestic Dispute.
A 23-year-old woman, Abigail Victor, was on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Kaduna by the Nigeria Police for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend during a domestic altercation stemming from accusations of infidelity.
Abigail, a resident of Ungwan Sunday in Kaduna State, is facing a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and causing grievous bodily harm, as filed by the Police. The incident, which reportedly took place on May 17, 2025, occurred in the Sabon Tasha area of Kaduna.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, Abigail had an intense disagreement with her boyfriend, Dominic James, during which she accused him of cheating on her. The argument escalated to violence when, in a fit of rage, Abigail allegedly contacted two of her friends.
The trio proceeded to the residence of the complainant, Dominic, where they reportedly assaulted him. During the attack, Abigail allegedly stabbed Dominic in the shoulder with a knife, inflicting a serious wound.
Inspector Leo informed the court that it was the intervention of concerned neighbours that prevented further harm. The neighbours quickly rushed the injured Dominic to a nearby hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
The prosecutor stated that the actions of the accused contravened Sections 58 and 284 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law of 2017. Under Section 58, conspiracy is a criminal offence punishable by up to one year imprisonment upon conviction. Section 284, which addresses the offence of causing bodily harm, stipulates a minimum sentence of five years imprisonment for convicted offenders.
Despite the charges, Abigail pleaded not guilty during her arraignment.
Presiding over the case, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with one surety in the same amount. The court specified that the surety must be a blood relative of the accused and must provide valid documentation showing at least three years of consistent tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
Magistrate Emmanuel subsequently adjourned the matter to June 17, 2025, for further hearing and presentation of evidence.
The case has since drawn public interest, with calls from various quarters for a thorough investigation and fair trial to ensure justice for all parties involved.
