Novak Djokovic, the world number six, kicked off his quest for a historic 100th ATP title with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 victory over Marton Fucsovics in the Geneva Open on Wednesday.

The straight-set win marked Djokovic’s first clay-court triumph since his career Golden Slam at the Paris 2024 Olympics, ending a three-match losing streak on the surface.

The 37-year-old Serbian star, who turns 38 on Thursday, showcased his resilience ahead of the French Open, where he aims to claim a record-breaking 25th major title starting Sunday. Seeded second in Geneva behind world number four Taylor Fritz, Djokovic will face Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in the quarter-finals.

“It’s great to break the ice,” Djokovic said post-match. “Clay is a very demanding surface, trickier than others. You always have to expect to play an extra shot or two. I’m pleased with my focus and level of tennis today, and I hope to keep it going.”

The victory signals a strong start to Djokovic’s Roland Garros preparations following early exits in Madrid and Monte Carlo and a Miami Open final loss in March.
