FCTA to Commission Multiple Projects Over 19 Days as Part of President Tinubu’s Second Year Anniversary Celebrations

In commemoration of the second anniversary of President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s administration, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), led by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has announced an extensive plan to commission a series of critical infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The events are slated to span 19 days, reflecting the commitment of the administration to infrastructural development and urban renewal in Abuja.

This decision was reached during the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCTA, held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Minister Wike.

According to a statement issued by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the commissioning ceremonies will begin on June 10, 2025, and continue uninterrupted for a total of 19 days.

Among the flagship projects scheduled for unveiling is the newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre, a landmark facility that plays a key role in hosting international and national conferences, boosting Abuja’s profile as a global city.

Other important infrastructural assets to be commissioned include the newly completed Bus Terminals located in Kugbo and Mabushi, aimed at improving public transportation and easing urban mobility within the FCT.

The ambitious schedule also features major road projects designed to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion. Notable among these are the Apo-Wassa Road project, the N16 interchange, and the extensive road network connecting Maitama through Katampe to Jahi.

Furthermore, the Inner Northern Expressway running from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa Road), the CN8 from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal, and the N20 Flyover on Onnex Kubwa Road will be inaugurated. Additionally, the Life Junction to Ring Road III corridor will be commissioned, highlighting a focus on key transport arteries within the city.

Several access roads critical to suburban and rural connectivity will also be opened, including the Kabulsa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti Access Roads, along with an access road in the Giri District.

Another significant project is the 15-kilometer road linking A2 Junction Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council. The roads in Ushafa, War College, and the Army Checkpoint areas in Bwari Area Council will also be officially commissioned.

In a related development, the FCT Executive Committee has approved a contract for the upgrade of the street lighting system along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I), a critical 14-kilometer, 10-lane expressway stretching from Maitama to Gudu.

Mr. Richard Dauda, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), explained that this upgrade was one of seven memos submitted by the FCDA and subsequently approved during the meeting.

Mr. Dauda highlighted that the existing streetlights on the expressway, installed between 2005 and 2006, have grown obsolete over nearly two decades, resulting in poor illumination that compromises safety and visibility for motorists at night.

He noted, “If you pass there in the night, you will realize that most parts of the road are in darkness. The streetlights have been there for close to 15 years now and are no longer bright enough to adequately light the road.”

He further emphasized that the upgrade is driven by advances in street lighting technology. The planned installation involves a hybrid street lighting system designed to significantly improve brightness, enhance security, and ensure safer, more comfortable travel along the expressway during nighttime hours.

This comprehensive approach to infrastructure commissioning and upgrade marks a significant milestone in the FCTA’s ongoing efforts to boost urban infrastructure, improve transportation networks, and enhance the quality of life for residents of Abuja.

It also aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of a modern, well-connected, and vibrant Federal Capital Territory as his administration marks its second year in office.
