President Tinubu didn’t create the problem we are in right now. And for me, I believe he is doing his best, and he should be supported to finish

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has publicly acknowledged the challenging circumstances that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited upon assuming office, emphasizing that the president deserves the unwavering support of the Nigerian people to successfully navigate and overcome these difficulties.

Reflecting on President Tinubu’s performance over his first two years in office, Governor Eno described the period as “wonderful,” underscoring the progress made despite the complex and longstanding issues facing the nation.

Governor Eno shared these thoughts during an informal interaction with state house correspondents at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, shortly after a strategic meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima.

When asked about his assessment of the current state of Nigeria under President Tinubu’s leadership, Governor Eno was clear and unequivocal in his response.

He stated, “President Tinubu didn’t create the problem we are in right now. And for me, I believe he is doing his best, and he should be supported to finish.” This remark highlighted the governor’s belief that the president is committed to addressing Nigeria’s difficulties and requires collective national backing to realize his vision for the country.

As Governor Eno approaches his own two-year anniversary in office, he took the opportunity to reflect on the notable strides his administration has made within Akwa Ibom State.

He outlined a broad range of accomplishments that cut across multiple sectors of the state’s socio-economic landscape. These achievements, he explained, demonstrate a hands-on and results-oriented approach by his government.

“When you come to Akwa Ibom, you’ll find that we are working across the board—from schools and hospitals to roads and markets. Our presence is felt on the ground, and we are delivering results,” the governor emphasized. His words conveyed a strong message of ongoing development and effective governance in the state.

Governor Eno elaborated further, explaining that the first phase of his administration primarily focused on rural development—an area he identified as critical for inclusive growth and the upliftment of underserved communities.

However, he indicated that the next two years would bring a shift in emphasis toward large-scale infrastructural development aimed at catalyzing economic growth and positioning Akwa Ibom as a prominent player on the global stage.

“We are now moving on to super infrastructural development,” he stated confidently. “Our goal is to transform Akwa Ibom into a major tourist destination, and we are well on our way to achieving that.”

In expressing pride over the state’s trajectory, Governor Eno paid tribute to the leadership legacy left by his predecessors, noting that each administration has contributed meaningfully to building a solid foundation for progress.

He remarked, “Akwa Ibom has been particularly lucky. We’ve been blessed with good leaders—from Obong Attah to Godswill Akpabio, Chief Udom Emmanuel, and now myself. We come, we build, and we continue that trajectory. Compared to other states, I believe Akwa Ibom is doing very well.”

Turning his attention to the critical issue of youth empowerment, Governor Eno highlighted his administration’s commitment to equipping young people with relevant skills, creating employment opportunities, and fostering entrepreneurship.

He outlined several initiatives designed to nurture the state’s youth population, including skills acquisition programs and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“We are investing heavily in our youth,” the governor affirmed. “We are providing training, equipping them with marketable skills, supporting SMEs, and we’ve launched an employment portal to connect job seekers with opportunities. Our ultimate aim is to rebuild and strengthen the middle class.”

Governor Eno concluded by assuring that his government remains steadfast in its dedication to inclusive and sustainable growth. He emphasized the importance of strategic collaboration, noting that Akwa Ibom is leveraging partnerships with the federal government as well as the private sector to fully unlock the state’s vast economic potential and ensure prosperity for all its citizens.
