APC Agege Chairmanship Aspirant, Sola Osolana, Responds to Allegations by Chairman Ganiyu Egunjobi
Sola Osolana, a prominent aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship position in Agege Local Government, Lagos State, has strongly criticised a recent statement made by the current APC chairman of the area, Ganiyu Egunjobi. The controversy arose after Egunjobi referred to Osolana as a “United Kingdom resident,” a claim that sparked backlash from Osolana.
The remarks by Chairman Egunjobi came in the wake of the APC primaries held in Agege Local Government and Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA). During his comments, Egunjobi targeted those he described as “sore losers” — party members who, according to him, have long distanced themselves from the APC and the local community’s activities. He alleged that Osolana is among those who are not genuinely engaged or rooted in the local community’s affairs.
Egunjobi defended the primary election process, explaining that the party’s leadership had opted for a consensus or delegate voting system where council executive members acted as voters.
He noted that the executive councilors in Agege and Orile-Agege were appointed about four years ago, during a period when many of them, including Osolana, had purportedly distanced themselves from the party.
Reacting swiftly to these claims, Sola Osolana dismissed Egunjobi’s accusations as baseless. He firmly stated, “I am a resident of Agege with thriving businesses within the council. While many politicians avoid investing in this community, I have numerous residents employed by my enterprises.”
To further prove his deep connection to the area, Osolana challenged Egunjobi to accompany him on a walk through Agege without security and have the media document the event. He insisted that such an outing would clearly demonstrate whether or not he is UK-based or genuinely rooted in the community.
On the issue of local employment and economic contribution, Osolana turned the tables on Egunjobi, challenging him to name any jobs or businesses he has personally established in Agege using his private resources. Osolana emphasized that he has created numerous business ventures in the area, which Egunjobi allegedly benefited from even before assuming the chairmanship.
Moreover, Osolana highlighted his philanthropic efforts through the Sola Osolana Foundation, which has played a significant role in supporting Agege and Orile Agege communities.
He cited various initiatives funded by his foundation, including empowerment programs for women and youths, scholarship schemes for students, and sponsorship of sports competitions in schools within the local government areas.
Osolana’s detailed response underlines his commitment to Agege and his active role in fostering development and empowerment within the community. His rebuttal not only refutes Egunjobi’s claims but also reinforces his bid for the APC chairmanship as that of a grounded, community-oriented leader.
