The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced a N5 million cash reward for any individual who provides credible information leading to the recapture of seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun.
IREPORT247NEWS had earlier reported that the escape occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 20, 2025, around 2:00 a.m., following a heavy downpour that compromised the integrity of the facility’s perimeter fence.
The NCoS described the incident as a “force majeure,” emphasizing that the torrential rainfall created an unanticipated breach that enabled the escape.
In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Service’s spokesperson, Umar Abubakar, the NCoS appealed to members of the public to assist in locating and apprehending the escapees.
The statement further emphasized that the public’s cooperation is vital and will be duly rewarded with a financial incentive of N5 million for actionable intelligence leading to successful recapture.
Abubakar, “In order to encourage public participation, the Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a cash reward of N5million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates from the Medium Custodial Centre, Ilesha, Osun State.
“The Service urges members of the public to report any information they may have regarding the whereabouts of the inmates at large to the nearest security agencies. All information will be treated with utmost confidentiality and anonymity.”
