The body of missing banker was found on Sunday in a morgue at Yaba with machete cuts on his head, face, and legs. It’s heartbreaking.

Several days after Osemudiamen Idemudia, a banker based in Lagos, was reported missing by his family, his body was found at a morgue in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

Idemudia worked in the Point-of-Sale department of a commercial bank located in the Ikota district. He was last seen on the evening of May 9 in the CMS area of Lagos.

A relative of the deceased, who identified himself only as Segun, informed Punch on Wednesday that the body was discovered on Sunday during an urgent search through various hospitals and morgues across the state.

The 26-year-old banker was found with severe machete wounds on his head, face, and legs, which has led to suspicions that he was a victim of homicide.

“We have located Osemudiamen’s body. He was murdered,” Segun said. “The body was found on Sunday in a morgue at Yaba with machete cuts on his head, face, and legs. It’s heartbreaking.”

Segun added that the police were reportedly the ones who brought the body to the morgue. However, attempts to gather more information regarding the circumstances of the body’s recovery proved unsuccessful, as the morgue attendants were unable to identify the officers involved.

“The morgue staff said the police delivered the body, but when we asked for details on where it came from, they couldn’t provide any information. They also didn’t know which policemen brought the corpse, which has complicated the situation further,” he explained.

According to Segun, the family laid the remains to rest on Tuesday.

Julius, the father of the late banker, recounted the events of the day his son disappeared. He said that Osemudiamen left work with a colleague to attend an appointment with a senior staff member at the bank’s headquarters in CMS, Lagos Island. However, upon arrival, the meeting was cancelled by the official.

Following the cancellation, Osemudiamen and his colleague parted ways to return home. After that, Osemudiamen was never seen or heard from again.

“He has been missing since Friday, May 9,” Julius said. “That morning, he went to his office in Ikota, and after work, he planned to visit the head office with a colleague for a scheduled appointment. But while on the way, the senior staff member called to cancel, saying the meeting would be postponed until Monday.

“When they arrived at CMS, they separated. Osemudiamen usually took a bus to Iyana Ipaja, then another bus to Igando. As time passed without any contact from him, we grew concerned. After 24 hours of silence, we reported him missing. This is so unlike him, and we are deeply worried about his safety.”

The disappearance was officially reported at the Igando Police Station, near Akesan, where Osemudiamen lived.

Attempts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of this report.
