A tragic incident has unfolded in Benin City, where a man identified as Esosa Imasuen has been accused of fatally assaulting his wife, Chinwedu Nnadozie.
The alleged assault reportedly occurred following a domestic disagreement between the couple at their residence on Oza Street, located in the Ogbelaka area along the Sakponba Road axis of the state capital.
According to eyewitness accounts and reports from neighbors, the argument quickly escalated into violence when Esosa Imasuen reportedly attacked Chinwedu. She, a mother of three children, sustained severe injuries during the altercation. Following the assault, Chinwedu was hurriedly taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Medical personnel at the hospital conducted examinations and tests, ultimately diagnosing Chinwedu with internal bleeding—a serious and life-threatening condition that was a direct result of the beating she endured.
Despite the efforts of the healthcare professionals, Chinwedu’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and she tragically passed away at the hospital before her father could reach her bedside.
Everistus Nnadozie, the grieving father of the deceased, shared his heartbreak and frustration. He revealed that he was informed of the attack by relatives who told him that his son-in-law, Esosa Imasuen, had violently beaten his daughter, leaving her in critical condition.
“They said he took her to the hospital where a doctor was said to have carried out some tests on her, and the result showed that she had internal bleeding,” he recounted sorrowfully.
Everistus further explained that he was unable to see his daughter’s body after her death, as Esosa reportedly took the corpse to a mortuary without informing the family of its location. “I went to his house, but they said he had absconded,” he lamented, indicating that the son-in-law had disappeared following the incident.
The bereaved father has since been attempting to contact Esosa Imasuen to learn where Chinwedu’s body was kept for burial arrangements but has been met with silence. He expressed his deep frustration and anguish over the situation, particularly the lack of cooperation and transparency from his son-in-law.
The state police spokesperson, Moses Yamu when contacted said he had contacted many police stations in Benin and none of them had received such a report.
However, the case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the allegations and the tragic loss of life.
The incident highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence and the urgent need for intervention and support systems to protect vulnerable individuals.
