The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Mohammed Umar, a 19-year-old male resident of Abuja Road in Yola South Local Government Area, for allegedly loitering suspiciously within the premises of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) located in Ngurore. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 18, 2025.
According to official reports, the suspect was observed behaving unusually and wearing attire traditionally associated with the opposite sex — specifically, clothing typically worn by women. His presence and conduct raised suspicion among members of the church community.
The matter was promptly reported to the Ngurore Divisional Police Headquarters by a concerned citizen, Mr. Sunday Andrawus, who noticed the suspect’s suspicious movement within the church premises. In response to the report, officers from the division swiftly intervened and apprehended the suspect at the location for questioning and further investigation.
Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Dankombo Morris, ordered that the case be immediately transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola. The Commissioner has tasked the SCID with conducting a discreet and thorough investigation to determine the suspect’s motives, identity, and any potential threats or criminal intent behind his actions.
While the nature of the incident is still under investigation, the Police Command has assured the public that it remains committed to maintaining public safety, preserving law and order, and ensuring that places of worship and other communal spaces remain secure for all residents.
The Adamawa State Police Command also used this opportunity to encourage members of the public to remain vigilant, report any unusual or suspicious activities promptly, and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies. Timely information, the Command emphasized, is critical to effective policing and crime prevention.
