Team Kano kicked off the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun State on a high note, securing five medals in weightlifting on Monday, with Temidayo Jegede leading the charge.

The standout athlete clinched three medals in the women’s 55kg category: silver in the snatch (77kg), bronze in the clean & jerk (98kg), and silver in the total lift (175kg).

Displaying remarkable skill and composure, Jegede dedicated her medals to God and her coaches at the Kano State Weightlifting Association. “I’m thrilled with these medals, though I aimed for gold. Missing the moon still lands you among the stars,” she told reporters. “This will push me to work harder and aim higher.”

Jegede also praised the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) for their efforts in promoting the sport and providing athletes a platform to excel.

Meanwhile, teammate Adamma Dorcas added two bronze medals in the women’s 49kg category, bringing Team Kano’s total to five medals.
