The Nigerian Senate has announced a shift in the time scheduled for its plenary sitting today, moving it from the usual 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The decision was made public in an official statement issued by the Clerk to the Senate, Mr. Andrew Nwoba.
According to Mr. Nwoba, the adjustment in time was necessitated by the need to accommodate the official opening ceremony of the First Ordinary Session of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, which is slated to commence at 10:00 a.m. today.
The event holds significant regional importance and is expected to be attended by key dignitaries and political leaders across West Africa.
The President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is scheduled to participate in the ECOWAS Parliament ceremony.
By rescheduling its plenary session, the Senate aims to ensure that its leadership can fully engage in the ECOWAS event without disrupting its legislative duties.
All Senators, legislative staff, and stakeholders have been duly informed of the change, and plenary proceedings are expected to resume promptly at the new time of 1:00 p.m. today.
Nwoba said: “This is to bring to the attention of Distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the Senate will resume its plenary session by 1:00pm instead of 11:00am, tomorrow (Tuesday), 20-05-25.
“This shift in time for resumption is due to the Opening Ceremony of the First Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament, tomorrow (today) by 10.00 am which the President of the Senate will be attending.
“The Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, will also be in attendance as he is the 1st Deputy Speaker of that Parliament.
“Any inconvenience this shift in time might have caused is highly regrettable.”
