At least 26 chairmanship candidates have emerged under the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the upcoming July 12 local government elections in Lagos State. This was disclosed by the party’s State Chairperson, Pastor Dayo Ekong, during a press briefing on Saturday

According to Ekong, the candidates emerged following primary elections held across 26 different locations in the state on Friday. She noted that primaries were conducted in 26 out of the 57 local government areas (LGAs) and local council development areas (LCDAs), with the party choosing not to field chairmanship candidates in the remaining 30 councils for strategic reasons.

Some of the councils where the party will not be fielding candidates include Ikeja, Surulere, Agege, Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Lagos Island East and West, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun.

Ekong added that the primary election in Oshodi-Isolo LGA was postponed and would be rescheduled in order to complete the list of 27 candidates the party plans to present for the election.
