My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments, I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and former Governor of Kano State, has strongly denied reports suggesting that he is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement released on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @KwankwasoRM, the influential northern politician dismissed the rumours as baseless falsehoods, engineered to create confusion and misrepresent his political stance.

“My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments,” Kwankwaso wrote. “I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.”

The former Minister of Defence clarified that he has deliberately chosen to refrain from commenting on ongoing political developments, noting that any public position attributed to him outside of his verified channels should be disregarded.

“I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events, and I will continue to do so for the time being,” he said. “I urge the public to only engage statements that come from my public handles and other official sources.”

The clarification follows the circulation of a statement allegedly signed by one Ibrahim Rabiu, which claimed to represent Kwankwaso’s position on rumored political realignments. However, the said individual has since recanted the statement, admitting he acted without authorization.

In a separate statement, Ibrahim Rabiu tendered a public apology, acknowledging that he issued the statement without Kwankwaso’s consent.

“I, Ibrahim Rabiu, wish to inform the general public that I was never authorised by Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso to issue and release a statement on his behalf,” he said. “I therefore wish to tender a public apology to his person, with a promise that such a childish act will never be repeated in the future. Please find a space in your heart to forgive me—I was misled by fake news and agents of misinformation.”

The episode comes amid ongoing speculation over potential political shifts and alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several parties reportedly exploring new alignments. However, Kwankwaso’s latest statement seeks to put an end to the rumours regarding his political future—at least for now.
