The new phase will include 110 solar-powered boreholes to be installed in 55 schools and 55 health centres—two units per LGA and LCDA, with additional units allocated to each LGA and two extra for Ado LGA
The Ekiti State Government is set to begin the construction of 110 new WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) facilities across its 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 22 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
According to the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to ensure residents have reliable access to safe and potable water, as well as improved sanitation and hygiene services.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti, Prof. Aluko revealed that 110 solar-powered pumps and accessories have already been delivered to the state for use in the upcoming projects.
The initiative falls under the World Bank-supported “Program for Results” framework, specifically the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) Programme.
He noted that the project targets underserved communities and that bulk procurement of the pumps was aimed at cost efficiency and ensuring uniform quality and maintenance standards.
“This broader effort is part of our SURWASH programme. Over the past two years, we’ve focused on expanding access to water and sanitation in both urban and rural areas,” Aluko said. “We have rehabilitated 121 WASH facilities and constructed 64 solar-powered boreholes in schools, health centres, and communities.”
The new phase will include 110 solar-powered boreholes to be installed in 55 schools and 55 health centres—two units per LGA and LCDA, with additional units allocated to each LGA and two extra for Ado LGA.
