A horrifying tragedy has struck the Eche Ezema community in Ibagwa Aka, the administrative headquarters of Igbo Eze South Local Government Area in Enugu State, following the alleged brutal murder of four young siblings by a local pastor.
The victims—Kamsiyochukwu Ezema (7), Ezinne Ezema (6), Ujunwa Ezema (5), and Chinedu Ezema (2)—were reportedly attacked and killed with a pestle while they were alone at home. Tcurrently in police custody at the Divisional Police Station in Ibagwa Aka.
“The suspect used a pestle to kill them,” the source said with visible grief and shock.
According to a family source who spoke to journalists, the children were left at home unattended when the suspect allegedly scaled the fence and carried out the gruesome act.
The children’s parents, Chinonso Ezema and Loveth Ezema, were reportedly away when the incident occurred. Upon their return, they were confronted with the devastating loss of all four of their young children.
The devastated father, Chinonso Ezema, demanded justice and a thorough investigation into the tragedy. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“We want the police to thoroughly investigate this and ensure the culprit is brought to book.”
He added that their residence shares a fence with the church where the suspect serves as a pastor, further deepening the shock and betrayal felt by the family and the community.
A police officer at the Ibagwa Aka Divisional Headquarters, who confirmed the arrest but spoke on condition of anonymity, said the case had been formally recorded and investigations were already underway.
“We urge the public to remain calm and allow a full investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragedy,” the officer stated.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the local community and beyond, with residents struggling to come to terms with the brutality and senselessness of the crime. Many are calling for swift justice and for mental health evaluations to be conducted as part of the investigation.
As the community mourns the loss of these innocent lives, the tragic event has reignited conversations around child safety, mental health, and the vetting of religious leaders in local communities. Vigils and gatherings have begun forming in remembrance of the four siblings, whose lives were cut short in an act too horrific to comprehend.
