The Sports Coaches Association of Nigeria (SCAN) will hold a significant national congress on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Abeokuta, coinciding with the 22nd National Sports Festival. The meeting, scheduled for 11 a.m. at Babcock University Games Village, aims to address critical issues such as coaches’ welfare and professional development.

In an exclusive interview with KSM, SCAN Secretary-General Obong Ntiense Williams revealed that the congress will bring together coaches from across Nigeria and abroad to discuss the association’s future. “This physical gathering will allow members to connect, share experiences, and strategize on advancing our profession,” Williams said. Key agenda items include improving coaches’ welfare, exploring valid contractual agreements, and enhancing expertise to boost performance at competitions.

The meeting will also provide a platform for members to gain insights into coaching at major sporting events, fostering confidence and capacity to secure victories for their states and Nigeria. Following the congress, attendees will join the opening ceremony of the National Sports Festival at the newly refurbished Moshood Abiola Sports Complex.

SCAN, representing coaches across all sports recognized by the National Sports Commission and the Nigerian Olympics Committee, urges all coaches to attend and update their managerial skills to meet the evolving demands of Nigerian sports.
