The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has firmly distanced itself from an alleged attempt to initiate a recall process against Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
The party described the move as a politically motivated act of blackmail, orchestrated by individuals with no legitimate affiliation to the APC.
In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Barrister Valentine Onojeghuo, the APC categorically stated that those behind the purported recall campaign are not recognised, card-carrying members of the party and therefore lack the moral and political legitimacy to act or speak on behalf of either the APC or the constituents of Delta Central.
“We wish to make it categorically clear that the individuals fronting the so-called recall process are not members of our party. They do not possess the political authority or credibility to represent the interest of our members or the people of Delta Central Senatorial District,” Onojeghuo said.
The APC spokesman described the recall attempt as a deliberate act of mischief, aimed at destabilising the party and discrediting its democratically elected officials. He warned that the Delta APC would not tolerate any form of campaign of calumny or coordinated smear tactics against its lawmakers, particularly when such actions are rooted in personal vendettas or political envy.
“The APC in Delta State will not stand by and allow politically sponsored blackmail or malicious schemes to fester. We are prepared to expose, confront, and dismantle every attempt to undermine our legislative representatives under the guise of an illegitimate recall process,” he warned.
Onojeghuo further alleged that the orchestrator of the campaign is Fejiro Oliver, a controversial figure known in political circles. According to the APC, Oliver is leading the campaign not on the strength of any genuine grievance from the electorate, but rather as a personal mission to smear the image of Senator Dafinone, a respected member of the 10th National Assembly.
The party called on its members and supporters across Delta Central to ignore what it termed a baseless distraction and reaffirmed its full support for Senator Dafinone, lauding his performance and legislative contributions since assuming office.
“Senator Dafinone remains a trusted representative of the people of Delta Central, and we are proud of the work he has done thus far. The APC stands solidly behind him and will continue to protect the integrity of our elected officials from unwarranted attacks,” the statement concluded.
The Delta APC urged security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be vigilant and not allow themselves to be drawn into politically motivated activities that have no foundation in law or popular will.
The development comes amid a rising wave of internal and external political tensions within the state, with observers noting that such recall attempts may be tied to upcoming election strategies and power tussles.
