The President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, has commended the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) inspection team for their professional and thorough evaluation of facilities for the upcoming Africa U-18/20 Athletics Championship, scheduled for July 16-20, 2025, in Abeokuta.
The four-member CAA team, led by Director General Lamine Faty of Senegal, included Technical and Development Director Aziz Daouda, Lombard Melinda Amana, and Maraire Munyaradzi Nkosasa Wilbert.
The team conducted a two-day inspection, beginning Friday at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta, and concluding Saturday with visits to top hotels, including the 153-room Green Legacy Resort and the 173-room Park Inn.
Okowa praised the team’s diligence and attention to detail, noting their selection of Abeokuta’s finest hotels. “I’m truly impressed with their thoroughness and human touch,” he said, emphasizing the professional manner in which the inspection was handled.
Over 800 rooms across various hotels have been reserved for athletes, officials, journalists, and World Athletics guests. Okowa urged the CAA to align with Nigeria’s standard practice of single-room occupancy for the event.
CAA Director General Lamine Faty expressed satisfaction with the preparations, commending the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), represented by Secretary Shagaya Abdulmumeen. “Our Nigerian hosts provided excellent conditions for our work,” Faty said, affirming that Abeokuta is ready to welcome Africa’s athletes in July.
