Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a guardian and four other individuals for allegedly selling a two-week-old baby for N3 million.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects—identified as Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo—were apprehended by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The arrests were made following a report by a man who filed a case of abduction and child theft involving his 16-year-old cousin, Happiness. The young girl, who was pregnant at the time, had been placed under the care of Nonye Osi. However, she later went missing.

Investigations revealed that Osi conspired with the other suspects to secretly relocate Happiness to an undisclosed location. When she was eventually located, she was found without her baby. Further inquiries uncovered that the newborn had been sold for N3 million.

Through intensive investigative work, SCID operatives successfully traced and recovered the baby boy from Agemuwo in the Badagry area. The child, who was two weeks old at the time of the abduction, was found in good health.

CSP Hundeyin noted that the Gender and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit is now overseeing the case. The baby is currently under care pending his reunification with his biological mother.

IREPORT247NEWS has earlier report that a five-month-old baby boy has been reunited with his mother three months after he was allegedly stolen by a suspected child trafficker.

Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, disclosed this development during a press briefing in Asaba. He revealed that the suspect, Mrs. Joy Temitope Oyetimi, 49, had drugged the baby’s 20-year-old mother while they were traveling from Koko to Warri on February 16.

“At the time, the baby was only two months old,” the Commissioner said. “Mrs. Oyetimi offered the mother a drink laced with drugs. Once she lost consciousness, the suspect absconded with the child.”

Following a report, the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan Police Station launched an intelligence-led investigation. The suspect was eventually tracked and arrested. During interrogation, Oyetimi confessed to abducting the child.

The baby, now five months old, was rescued and has since been reunited with his parents. The suspect remains in custody while further investigations continue.
