Oyo State Primed for Triumph at 22nd National Sports Festival

As the 22nd National Sports Festival kicks off today in Ogun State, Oyo State athletes are gearing up for a remarkable performance, buoyed by high expectations and rigorous preparation.

Mr. Tunde Ajibike, General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, expressed unwavering confidence in the team’s ability to excel, speaking to reporter Tobi Ajewole at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, the departure point for the state’s contingent of athletes, coaches, and officials.

The National Sports Festival, a biennial event showcasing Nigeria’s finest sporting talent, runs from May 16 to May 30, 2025, with Ogun State serving as the host. Oyo State will field competitors in 32 diverse sporting events, ranging from athletics to team sports, aiming to build on the state’s proud legacy of success at previous festivals. Ajibike highlighted the athletes’ dedication and the comprehensive training programs implemented by the Oyo State Sports Council, underscoring their readiness to compete at the highest level.

“Our athletes are in top form, and we are poised to make Oyo State proud,” Ajibike stated. “We’ve left no stone unturned in our preparations, and we’re confident that our team will deliver outstanding results.”

The delegation’s departure from Ibadan marks the culmination of months of intensive training and strategic planning, with the goal of securing a strong position on the medal table.The 22nd National Sports Festival promises fierce competition, with states across Nigeria vying for supremacy.

For Oyo State, the event is an opportunity to showcase its athletic prowess and reinforce its reputation as a powerhouse in Nigerian sports.

As the athletes arrive in Ogun State, all eyes will be on their performance, with expectations high for a haul of medals and memorable moments over the next two weeks.
