This witness is clearly a government-sponsored actor, unfamiliar with DSS operations, who has been deployed to mislead the court.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly criticized the Federal Government, alleging that it introduced a “planted mercenary” as a witness in the ongoing trial of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
According to IPOB, the individual—identified only as Prosecution Witness BBB (PW-BBB)—is falsely presented as an insider from the Department of State Services (DSS) and is being strategically coached to pose as a credible informant.
In a statement issued by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group condemned the alleged move as a “disgraceful development” and an abuse of judicial procedure.
IPOB claimed that PW-BBB’s name and testimony were never disclosed in the original list of witnesses provided to the defense team, describing the sudden appearance as a form of “trial by ambush” and a clear example of prosecutorial misconduct.
“The presentation of PW-BBB—an individual who, under cross-examination, was exposed as having no legitimate ties to the DSS—reflects the Nigerian government’s reliance on deception and manipulation in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s trial,” the statement read.
“This witness is clearly a government-sponsored actor, unfamiliar with DSS operations, who has been deployed to mislead the court.”
IPOB urged the presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, to take judicial notice of what it described as an egregious abuse of legal process and to ensure the integrity of the court is protected. The group further accused the government of using underhanded tactics to sustain what it views as the unlawful detention of Kanu.
The statement also referenced reports—confirmed by independent observers and British Consular staff—that verify Kanu’s continued solitary confinement under DSS custody. IPOB stressed that these documented facts cannot be negated by the testimony of an unqualified witness.

“This individual, lacking any genuine connection to Kanu’s detention, gave testimony riddled with evasive responses such as, ‘I don’t know,’ ‘That’s not my job,’ and ‘I wasn’t informed,’” the statement continued. “Such responses highlight his incompetence and the unreliability of his account.”
IPOB pledged to uncover the identity and motives of PW-BBB, while calling on the international community to hold the Nigerian government accountable for its handling of the trial. The group also reiterated its demand for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, emphasizing that true justice must prevail.
“The government’s attempt to legitimize falsehoods through the performance of a coached impostor not only undermines justice but also insults the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary,” IPOB stated.
“We urge the media to uphold journalistic ethics and resist being used as platforms for state-sponsored misinformation. Now more than ever, truth, objectivity, and constitutional principles must be defended.”
