The Lagos State Government has commenced a sensitization programme for public servants scheduled to retire—either statutorily or voluntarily—between July 1 and December 31, 2025.
This initiative aims to streamline the retirement process, ensuring smooth access to benefits and effective post-retirement planning.
Addressing participants at the 28th Retirement Benefits Documentation Seminar, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its workforce.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Olasunkanmi Oyegbola, Agoro emphasized the importance of preparing employees for a seamless transition from active service to retirement.
He stated, “This annual seminar is designed to equip retiring public servants with the knowledge and support necessary to undergo a stress-free retirement documentation process. It also provides continuous sensitization and guidance to help them successfully navigate life after public service.”
Highlighting the significance of timely and accurate documentation, he urged prospective retirees to take proactive steps in completing all necessary procedures to secure their retirement benefits. “Retirement requires deliberate and thoughtful planning,” he said. “I encourage all intending retirees to diligently fulfill their documentation requirements.”
Mr. Agoro also expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing staff for their dedication and commitment, noting that their contributions have been instrumental in shaping the public service. “Your selfless service, invaluable expertise, and wealth of institutional knowledge have left a lasting impact on the State’s governance structure,” he added.
In his remarks, the Director-General of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), Mr. Babalola Obilana, explained that the seminar was organized to provide essential guidance and information to prospective retirees. He noted that the initiative is designed to simplify the documentation process and ensure full compliance with the regulations of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
