Nigeria’s D’Tigers have been placed in Group C alongside Rwanda, Guinea, and Tunisia for the first phase of the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers, following the draw held Tuesday at the prestigious ALHAZM in Doha, Qatar.

The D’Tigers, seeded in pot three, will compete for one of the top three spots in Group C to advance to the second round, where Africa’s five representatives for the World Cup will be determined.

Other groups include Group A (Cameroon, South Sudan, Cape Verde, Libya), Group B (Senegal, DR Congo, Madagascar, Ivory Coast), and Group D (Mali, Angola, Uganda, Egypt).

The 16 teams will face off over five windows, starting November 2025.

In the second round, the top three teams from each group will form two new groups, carrying forward all prior results.

Each team will play six additional games against opponents they haven’t faced, with the top two teams from each group and the best third-placed team securing a spot in the 2027 FIBA World Cup.

The 2027 tournament will mark a historic milestone as the first FIBA World Cup hosted in the Middle East and North Africa, with Doha hosting all 32 teams in a single city—the largest such event in FIBA history.
