Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has firmly dismissed speculation about his departure, reaffirming his commitment to resolving the club’s ongoing struggles.

Speaking at a Uefa briefing at Old Trafford ahead of the Europa League final against Tottenham on May 21, Amorim addressed concerns sparked by his comments following United’s recent Premier League loss to West Ham.

After Sunday’s defeat, Amorim had suggested that if he couldn’t turn the club’s fortunes around by next season, United should seek a new manager. This led some to speculate that the former Sporting boss might be overwhelmed by the task at hand. However, he clarified his stance, stating, “I’m far from quitting. I have a clear idea of what to do and I understand the team’s problems.”

Amorim emphasized accountability, noting, “Since I arrived, I’ve been talking about standards. I cannot see the team having these results, especially in the Premier League, and not take responsibility. We need to perform, or the club’s hierarchy will make changes. That’s normal.”

Despite guiding United to their third European final since 2011, Amorim’s side has struggled in the Premier League, sitting in 16th place with only four wins in 2025—three against relegated teams and one against Ipswich. This puts United on course for their worst league finish since the 1973-74 relegation season.

With the Europa League final looming, Amorim rejected the idea that a loss could benefit his squad by freeing up midweeks for training next season. “That would be a really bad excuse,” he said. “If we don’t win, it’s going to be tough, and the patience of fans and the media will be at its limit. We’d have to be perfect to move forward.”
