President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to stay focused on developing Nigeria and keeping the nation united, saying he will not be distracted from doing what is best for the country.

The President made this known through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Tuesday during the launch of former Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido’s autobiography, “Being True to Myself,” held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, the Minister praised Lamido’s contributions to Nigerian politics, describing him as a bold and consistent leader who has helped shape the nation’s democratic journey, even as a member of the opposition.

“This is more than just a book launch,” Idris said. “It’s a celebration of a life built on courage, consistency, and a deep commitment to democracy. Despite being a critic of the current administration, Lamido is a respected figure who has played a vital role in Nigeria’s political history.”

President Tinubu, through the Minister, stressed that political opposition is not a sign of hostility, but an important part of democracy. “Every Nigerian, no matter their political party, has a right to be part of national conversations,” he said.

The President also commended the years of work Lamido put into writing his autobiography and encouraged other leaders to document their stories for future generations. Reflecting on the book’s title, Being True to Myself, Idris said it reflects Lamido’s honesty and strong principles—and that these same values are shared by President Tinubu, who remains committed to truth, justice, peace, and prosperity for all Nigerians.

Idris reassured the public that, despite the country’s challenges, Tinubu is determined to guide Nigeria towards economic growth and stability. “We know there’s still work to be done,” he said, “but President Tinubu has shown boldness and a clear vision to set Nigeria on the right path.”

On security, he confirmed the President’s strong commitment to protecting citizens and praised the Nigerian military for its ongoing sacrifices.

The Minister also noted new tax policies introduced to grow Nigeria’s revenue, explaining they are designed to support development without placing unnecessary burdens on the people.

“President Tinubu welcomes constructive criticism as part of a healthy democracy,” Idris added, “but he will not allow any distraction to stop him from doing what is right for Nigeria.”

The event was well attended and further showed Tinubu’s dedication to inclusive governance, national development, and upholding democratic values.
