Rivers State High Court Remands Four Over Kidnapping and Murder of Retired Headteacher

The Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has ordered the remand of four individuals in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a retired headteacher, Mr. Eugene Ndubuisi Orlu Orlu.

The accused—Emmanuel Eke, Ogechi Ogbogu (popularly known as “United”), Charles Anayor (alias “Biggie”), and Nelson Isaiah—are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder.

According to court proceedings, the suspects, along with others who remain at large, allegedly conspired in 2012 to abduct Mr. Orlu from Ubima community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

After reportedly collecting a ransom of fifteen million naira from the victim’s family, they are accused of murdering him, concealing his body in a sack, and burying it in a forested area between neighboring communities.

All four defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. No bail application was presented during the hearing. Consequently, the presiding judge, Justice Augusta Kingsley-Chukwu, ordered that they be remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Facility.

The case has been adjourned to the 20th and 27th of May, 2025, for the commencement of accelerated hearing.
