Algeria, South Africa Secure Final CHAN Spots

The lineup for the eighth African Nations Championship (CHAN) is now set, with Algeria and South Africa claiming the final two qualifying slots for the tournament, rescheduled to August 2-30, 2025, from its original February date.

Algeria and South Africa will join joint-hosts Uganda, Niger Republic, and Guinea in Group C. Meanwhile, Group D features 2018 silver medalists Nigeria alongside Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, and Sudan. Equatorial Guinea’s inclusion follows the disqualification of Congo Brazzaville after a successful protest.

Joint-hosts Kenya lead Group A, which includes 2018 champions Morocco, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia. Kenya and Morocco will face off in the tournament’s opening match. Group B, headed by co-hosts Tanzania, comprises Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and Central African Republic, who notably eliminated Cameroon. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stages.

Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia

Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic

Group C: Uganda, Niger Republic, Guinea, Algeria, South Africa

Group D: Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan, Nigeria
