UK-Based Nigerian Businesswoman Demands Public Retraction from Nigeria Police Over Defamatory ‘Wanted’ Declaration

United Kingdom-based Nigerian entrepreneur, Mrs. Dorcas Adeyinka, has issued a formal call to the Nigeria Police Force, demanding a public retraction of what she described as false and defamatory claims that declared her “wanted” in connection to a case she says is entirely fabricated to damage her reputation.

In a statement released on Monday in her capacity as the Managing Director of the Dorcas Adeyinka Empowerment Foundation, Mrs. Adeyinka detailed that the issue arose following the death of a woman identified as Folusho, widely known as Iya Ibeji, on April 9, 2024.

Contrary to circulating rumors and media speculation, Mrs. Adeyinka emphasized that she never met the deceased in person. She clarified that Iya Ibeji was a recipient of her foundation’s charitable program, which provided monthly support in the form of ₦80,000 worth of food supplies and ₦20,000 in cash.

Adeyinka further stated that an official autopsy confirmed the cause of death to be natural, resulting from complications related to tuberculosis.

Condemning the police’s actions, Adeyinka described the public notice labelling her as wanted as baseless and damaging. She called on the authorities to take firm action against those behind what she termed “malicious petitions” intended to mislead law enforcement and defame her character.

While expressing her willingness to cooperate with any fair and impartial investigation, Mrs. Adeyinka stressed that she would not submit to any inquiry led by units connected to Assistant Commissioner of Police Muyiwa Adejobi.

She accused ACP Adejobi of weaponizing state resources, including the Nigerian Police National Cyber Center (NCC), in an attempt to harass and intimidate her.

Mrs. Adeyinka concluded by urging that any legal proceedings related to the matter be conducted with complete transparency, fairness, and without political or institutional bias.

The statement read, “I, Mrs. Dorcas Adeyinka, a UK-based businesswoman, philanthropist, and Managing Director of the Dorcas Adeyinka Empowerment Foundation, find it imperative to publicly address the ongoing violations of my fundamental human rights and the persistent defamation of my character by individuals operating under the guise of the Nigerian Police Force.

“In April 2024, while in Nigeria for medical treatment and cultural engagements—including the conferment of chieftaincy titles Otun Yeye Oge and Are Iya Taiyese—I became the target of a coordinated smear campaign by persons with whom I had prior disagreements on social media. These individuals took advantage of my presence in Nigeria, fabricating allegations against me and spreading false narratives in a bid to tarnish my image.

“The situation escalated following the unfortunate death of a woman named Folusho, also known as Iya Ibeji, on April 9, 2024. Contrary to online speculation, I had never met the deceased in person. She was simply a beneficiary of my foundation’s charitable outreach, receiving monthly assistance comprising ₦80,000 worth of food items and ₦20,000 in cash.

“Initially dismissed as baseless online chatter, I was later contacted via WhatsApp by individuals claiming to represent the Inspector-General of Police’s Monitoring Unit. They indicated that I was under investigation for cyberbullying and cyberstalking, which shockingly evolved into a murder allegation without due process or credible evidence.

“Despite notifying the authorities of my health condition and my lawyer’s intention to submit formal communication, my health concerns were disregarded.

“The situation culminated in my image being published on the official social media pages of the Nigeria Police Force on May 12, 2024, labelling me “WANTED” for murder, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and extortion.

“This public declaration—made without thorough investigation or due process—caused severe reputational damage and emotional distress. I voluntarily presented myself, along with substantial documentation and evidence disproving the allegations. The complainant, under questioning, failed to provide any evidence supporting her claims. Furthermore, an official autopsy confirmed that the deceased died of natural causes due to tuberculosis.

“To date, there has been no public retraction or clarification issued by the Nigerian Police, despite the autopsy results and lack of evidence.

“Meanwhile, those responsible for the false petition—who even alleged that I confessed to injecting the deceased—have not been held accountable for their fabrications. I call on the Nigerian Police to publicly retract the false allegations and clear my name.

“Take decisive action against those who filed malicious petitions and ensure that this matter proceeds to court transparently and without bias.

“I am open to investigation by any team of the Nigerian Police and not by any team close or associated with ACP. Muyiwa Adejobi. For the records Muyiwa Adejobi has been using every instrument of the state to torment me.

“The recent one is the Nigerian Police National Cyber Center (NCC). I am very sure the Inspector General of Police is not aware of this abuse of office by Prince Adejobi Muyiwa but this open press release is for his attention.

“Finally, this press statement serves as a formal demand for justice and a call to restore my dignity, reputation, and constitutional rights. I remain committed to truth, integrity, and service to humanity through my foundation.”
