A 21-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday in connection with suspected arson attacks on two properties linked to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The Metropolitan Police force apprehended the suspect “on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life” and is currently holding him in custody. The arrest follows a series of incidents involving properties associated with Starmer, including a blaze at the door of his former family home in Kentish Town, north London.
The Incident
Emergency services responded to the fire at the Kentish Town property at 1:35 am on Monday, finding damage to the entrance but no injuries. “Officers attended the scene. Damage was caused to the property’s entrance, nobody was hurt,” the police stated. This incident is believed to be connected to a separate fire on Sunday at a house converted into flats in nearby Islington, also linked to Starmer. In the latter incident, firefighters rescued one person using an internal staircase while wearing breathing apparatus.
Investigation Underway
The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command is leading the investigation due to Starmer’s high profile. “All three fires are being treated as suspicious at this time, and enquiries remain ongoing,” the police confirmed. The probe also includes a vehicle fire on May 8. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed confidence in the police’s work, saying, “Police are investigating these incidents, and they have my full support in doing so”.
Official Response
Starmer’s official spokesman thanked emergency services for their rapid response, stating, “The prime minister thanks the emergency services for their work and it is subject to a live investigation. So, I can’t comment further”. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the motive behind these suspected arson attacks.
