Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy, Barrister Bayo-Lawal, officially received the Torch of Unity for the Ogun 2024 National Sports Festival on Tuesday.
The torch was presented by Mrs. Ekeana Ibora, who led a delegation from the National Sports Commission, accompanied by members of Team Oyo, at the Governor’s Office.
Addressing officials and athletes, Governor Makinde described the Torch of Unity as a powerful symbol of peace, unity, and brotherhood across Nigeria’s 36 states. He emphasized that the torch reaffirms the collective commitment to national cohesion and shared progress.
Governor Makinde urged Oyo State athletes to embody sportsmanship and integrity, serving as exemplary representatives both on and off the field. He also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to recognizing and rewarding athletes who bring honor to the state.
In attendance were the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke, and other top officials of the State Sports Council.
