Manchester United is reportedly keen on signing Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, with the player being favored over fellow target Bryan Mbeumo. According to Sky Sports, United wants to bolster their forward line with the likes of Liam Delap, Matheus Cunha, and either Semenyo or Mbeumo, particularly if they can offer Champions League football next season.
“Semenyo is believed to be ahead of Mbeumo on the list of targets at United,.” However, the Red Devils won’t have an easy ride, as Liverpool, Newcastle, and Tottenham are also vying for Semenyo’s signature. Chelsea is another contender, having been linked to Semenyo, but United currently appears to be the frontrunner.
Semenyo’s impressive performance this season, scoring nine goals and assisting four times in 33 Premier League matches, has caught the attention of several top clubs. Manchester United’s interest in Semenyo aligns with their plans to overhaul their squad, with potential exits including Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and Christian Eriksen, who are set to leave via free agency.
The potential transfer fee for Semenyo is estimated to be around £70 million, although transfer insider Rudy Galetti suggests £40m could be a more realistic price point. Signing Semenyo, along with Cunha (£62.5m) and Delap (£30m), would require a significant outlay of £132.5m or more, depending on the final deal.
United’s motivation for signing new attackers stems from their desire to strengthen their squad under new manager Ruben Amorim. Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes Semenyo would be a good fit, praising his strength, speed, energy, and shooting ability. “He fits the bill of the type of player Ruben Amorim is looking for,” Brown said.
With several clubs competing for Semenyo’s signature, Manchester United will need to navigate the complex transfer market to secure his services. A successful signing would bolster their chances of competing for major honors in the upcoming season.
