In a significant political development, three serving senators from Kebbi State, who were elected on the platform of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), have formally declared their intention to defect to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision followed a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Friday.
The lawmakers who have decided to defect are, Senator Adamu Aliero, representing Kebbi Central, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, representing Kebbi North, Senator Garba Maidoki, representing Kebbi South.
The senators were led to the meeting with President Tinubu by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. Other prominent figures present at the meeting included, Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu.
This defection is part of a recent wave of defections from the PDP to the APC, indicating a shift in political allegiances. The move is likely to have significant implications for the political landscape in Kebbi State and potentially beyond.
The defection of the three senators from Kebbi State to the APC marks a notable development in Nigerian politics. As the political scene continues to evolve, the impact of this defection on future elections and political dynamics remains to be seen.
