We are not saying we are working for one-party state but if this is the wish of Nigerians, we cannot quarrel with that. You know they say too many cooks spoil the soup, too many political parties spoil governance

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has addressed concerns raised by some members of the opposition party about Nigeria potentially drifting towards a one-party state.

According to Ganduje, the ruling party cannot object if Nigerians choose to have APC control most states and the federal government.

Ganduje’s Perspective on One-Party State
While meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Ganduje stated that a one-party state would not be imposed by force but rather through negotiation and the effectiveness of the APC’s governance.

He cited China as an example of a strong country with a one-party system, suggesting that if Nigerians prefer this system, the APC cannot quarrel with that decision.

Ganduje’s remarks came after leading three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators who defected to the APC to meet with President Tinubu. He emphasized that if other parties see the positive impact of APC’s governance and decide to join willingly, there’s nothing wrong with that.

Ganduje said, “Leaders worried on one party state…If one-party state is a wish and blessing to Nigeria… One party state is not by force, it is by negotiation and it is by other political parties seeing the effect of the positive governance of our party. If they decide to come to our party willingly, I think there is nothing wrong with that.

“Today China is one of the strongest countries in the world and it’s a one party system. We are not saying we are working for one-party system but if this is the wish of Nigerians, we cannot quarrel with that. You know they say too many cooks spoil the soup, too many political parties spoil governance.”
