My attention was called from my main house that my two wives were not feeling fine because I passed the night at a different house where my new bride is residing – Husband
Two co-wives living in the Dakwa community of the Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have allegedly been hospitalised after consuming a herbal concoction aimed at sexually stimulating their husband, who just married a third wife.
The herb, commonly referred to as ‘kayan mata’ in the Hausa language, is purportedly consumed to enhance sexual desire in male partners.
The women, identities concealed, purportedly consumed the herbs three days following their husband’s marriage to a third wife from his hometown in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.
Musa Muhammad, the husband central to the herbal arousal narrative, confirmed to the publication that his two wives were transported to a clinic in the adjacent town of Madalla, Niger State, where they were diagnosed with organ damage purportedly resulting from the herbs they ingested.
He disclosed that the two women underwent surgical procedures at the hospital and were discharged on Monday.
The husband, Musa Muhammad, provided more insight into the incident, stating that his wives had previously been supplied with a liquid herbal preparation by a herbalist. They would mix this liquid with milk before consuming it.
However, on this occasion, the herbalist gave them a different preparation, which was in powdered form. This change in formulation may have contributed to the adverse reaction experienced by the two women.
Muhammed said, ” My attention was called from my main house that my two wives were not feeling fine because I passed the night at a different house where my new bride is residing.
“So, I rushed there and found them rolling on the ground, complaining of stomach pain. Initially, I invited a nurse from within the community who placed them on drip, but without any improvement. So, I took them to a clinic in Madalla town where they underwent a test and surgery.
“They were discharged after about a week there.”
Muhammad revealed that efforts are underway to locate the female herbalist who supplied the powdered herb to his wives.
Mrs. Taiye Anifowose, a gynaecologist, has issued a warning to women about the dangers of consuming herbs like “kayan mata” for sexual arousal purposes. She emphasized that these substances can be hazardous to their organs and have long-term effects on their reproductive system.
Dr. Anifowose stressed the need for proper education and awareness about the risks associated with such herbs. She urged relevant government agencies, families, and community leaders to take an active role in enlightening the public about the potential dangers of these substances, highlighting the importance of protecting women’s health and well-being.
