Tragic Incident: man’s body Discovered in river

The body of Mr. Kehinde Ijebu was discovered floating in the River Oyile in Ibokun, Osun State, Nigeria. According to reports, Mr. Ijebu had been declared missing by his relatives since Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Neighbours suspected that Mr. Ijebu might have taken his own life, given his history of depression and dementia-like symptoms. A source in the town, Olawale Famuyatan, stated that Mr. Ijebu had been acting strangely in the week leading up to his disappearance.

Passersby discovered Mr. Ijebu’s body floating in the river on Wednesday, and the news spread quickly in the community. According to another source, Mr. Ijebu’s body was buried along with his belongings by the riverside.

The Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident on Thursday. He stated that the police believed Mr. Ijebu took his own life, as there were no visible marks of violence on his body. The police released the body to the family for burial after they declined to have an autopsy performed.

“The incident happened. There were no mark of violence on his body. The family approached us that they wanted to bury him but we suggested autopsy which they objected to. They said they wanted to bury him. I can’t say how or where he was buried. Investigation is still ongoing into the matter.”
