A devastating incident has occurred in the Odugbeho community of Benue State’s Agatu Local Government Area. The District Head, HRH Chief Anthony Adejo, was brutally murdered by suspected Fulani herdsmen in his farm on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

According to one of Chief Adejo’s acquaintances, Edo Seidu, the monarch was killed around 10:00 am while working on his farm. The suspected herdsmen took his mobile phone and other valuables. When calls were made to his phone, the perpetrators confirmed the gruesome act.

Edo Seidu revealed that he had spoken with the monarch on Tuesday and had plans to meet on Wednesday. When he couldn’t reach him, he called Chief Adejo’s phone, only to hear the disturbing news from the killers.

“I spoke with him on Tuesday and we had an appointment to meet on Wednesday, and when I couldn’t hear from him I put a call to him just to hear this ugly story.

“Chief Adejo was a great man who respected everyone not minding who you are or where you come from.”

His killing has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for increased security measures to protect lives and property.

The tragic death of HRH Chief Anthony Adejo serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges in the region.

The Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Catherine Anene, had not issued an official statement regarding the incident at the time of this report.
