On Thursday, a significant political development took place at the House of Representatives, as Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, made an unexpected appearance to witness the defection of three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers from his state to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The three lawmakers who defected to the APC were Hon. Balarabe Dabai (Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency), Hon. Iliyasu Abubakar (Batsari, Safana, and Dan-Musa Federal Constituency), and Hon. Salisu Yusuf (Mashi/Dutse Federal Constituency). In their letters to the House, they cited division and crisis within the PDP at both state and national levels as reasons for their decision to join the APC.

Governor Radda arrived at the National Assembly at 11:10 am, accompanied by the state’s immediate-past governor, Ibrahim Shema

The governor was formally ushered into the green chamber by the House leadership. After the lawmakers’ defection letters were read, Speaker Abbas acknowledged Governor Radda’s presence, and he led the new APC members in a ceremonial handshake with the Speaker and other top members of the House leadership.

This defection is part of a larger trend in the House, with a steady wave of lawmakers from the PDP and Labour Party (LP) defecting to the APC in recent weeks.

Notably, six federal lawmakers from Delta State defected from the PDP to the APC just two days prior, while two LP members from Enugu State joined the PDP.

The defection of the three PDP lawmakers to the APC, witnessed by Governor Radda, marks a significant shift in the political landscape, underscoring the APC’s growing strength and the challenges faced by the PDP in retaining its members.
