VDM’s Freedom Looms: Release Expected Today

I can confirm that as of today, VeryDarkMan has not yet been formally charged in court. However, charges are currently being prepared based on multiple petitions alleging cyberstalking and related offences.

Activist and social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), is set to be released today after being arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday.

The source said, “I can confirm that as of today, VeryDarkMan has not yet been formally charged in court. However, charges are currently being prepared based on multiple petitions alleging cyberstalking and related offences.

According to a source who spoke to Vanguard, VDM’s release follows widespread protests and condemnation from various individuals and groups.

Scores of youths protested in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, demanding VDM’s release. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi,  activist Richard Akinnola, Afrobeat superstar Davido, and celebrity Cubana Chief Priest, among others, have also condemned his arrest.

The EFCC has confirmed that VDM has not yet been formally charged in court but is preparing to file multiple charges against him, centered on allegations of cyberstalking and related offenses. VDM is expected to be charged in court on Thursday.

“We intend to file these charges in the coming days. Once that is done, you will be among the first to be informed.”
