Our future does not lie with politicians who change parties like garments. It lies in the collective will of the people to demand better and do better. We are Deltans, we choose integrity, and we will not be silenced

A civil society group, Concerned Citizens of Delta State, has condemned Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The group described the move as “self-serving” and “undemocratic,” stating that it was done without the consent of the people.

The group’s president, Evans Ufeli, expressed outrage over the defection, saying it was a betrayal of the trust of Deltans. He alleged that the leaders acted out of personal interest, abandoning their responsibilities and aligning with forces that do not reflect the people’s aspirations.

Ufeli said, “Our future does not lie with politicians who change parties like garments. It lies in the collective will of the people to demand better and do better. We are Deltans, we choose integrity, and we will not be silenced.”

Ufeli linked Okowa’s defection to an attempt to evade accountability, stating that the move was calculated to avoid scrutiny. The group called for a return to leadership grounded in integrity, vision, and people-driven governance.

The group urged Deltans to unite in the face of the “crisis of representation” and demand better leadership. Ufeli emphasized that the future of Delta State lies in the collective will of the people to demand integrity and good governance, saying, “We are Deltans, we choose integrity, and we will not be silenced.”
