Anthony Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight boxing champion, is in talks over a potential investment into Sky Bet Championship club Watford. Joshua, who has a net worth of around $83 million, was born in Watford and is well-liked in the area. He has made significant investments in property in the London area and is now considering investing in the football club.

“We wanted to move into private equity, venture capital funds,” Joshua told Sportmen . “As you earn, naturally you want to save, so rather than me spending recklessly I’m trying to invest money into certain asset classes and that was an opportunity that presented itself. Nothing’s come of it yet. It’s a serious investment. If it comes off it’s one that should do well.”

Joshua’s potential investment in Watford could be a significant boost for the club, which finished 14th in the Championship season. He is enthusiastic about the prospect of the club returning to the Premier League, saying, “If they went back to the Premier League then I’d need to get a shop on Market Street because the traffic that would be coming through Watford would be phenomenal.”

The boxing champion has fond memories of watching Watford fans and believes that investing in the club could be a valuable opportunity. “I remember being on Market Street and watching the football fans. I’m not a massive football fan myself but watching the fans steamroll Market Street and steamroll Vicarage Road were real good scenes.”

While nothing has been finalized yet, Joshua’s potential investment in Watford has generated excitement among fans and could be a significant development for the club.
