Infrastructure Boost: Federal Government Okays N750bn

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved over N750 billion worth of new and rescoped road projects across Nigeria.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, announced the approval of over N750 billion worth of new and rescoped road projects after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.

The projects were rescoped to align with current budgetary realities and funding availability.

Here are the key projects:

  • Rescoped Projects
  • Akure-Eta-Ogbese-Ekiti border to Ikere-Ado-Ekiti road project: Revised from 18.4km dual carriageway to 15km at a cost of N19.4 billion, spanning Ondo and Ekiti states.
  • Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna road project: Rescoped from 375km to 82.4km with six bridges, retaining the original budget of N105 billion.
  • Maiduguri-Monguno Road: Divided into two phases, with the first phase (30km) approved at N21 billion, and the second phase pending completion of the first.
  • Gombe-Yola road: Rescoped and awarded at N9.25 billion for the first phase of the Cham-Numan section in Adamawa.

New Projects

  • Abakaliki-Afikpo flyover: Awarded N25 billion in Ebonyi State.
    Ikoga and Atan-Alapoti-Ado-Odo road: Approved N37 billion in Ogun State.
    Enugu-Onitsha Expressway: Awarded N150 billion for a 77km stretch, partially funded under a tax credit scheme with MTN Nigeria.
    Benin-Shagamu-Ore Road: Remaining 96km section awarded N187 billion.
    Aba-Ikot-Ekpene road project: First phase approved at N30.2 billion.

Other Developments

  • 7th Axial Road project: A 50km road with five kilometers of bridges linked to the Lekki Deep Sea Port, funded by a $651.7 million facility from the China Exim Bank.
    Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway: Over 70% of work completed on Section One, with 30km ready for commissioning and an additional 10km on Section Two. The project has received endorsement from the Dutch Bank and the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
    Ebute-Ero Outer Marina Shoreline rehabilitation: Revised to N176.5 billion due to coastal erosion threatening vital infrastructure
